Tides of Change | A Lens on the North Devon Coast

In celebration of their 60th Anniversary, the North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) have teamed up with the Beaford Archive to present a fascinating ‘then-and-now’ publication Tides of Change | A Lens on the North Devon Coast compiled by AONB Project Officer Dave Edgcombe.

Through this brand-new publication, Dave Edgcombe revisits a wide range of locations along the coastline previously documented in the Beaford Archive.

He recaptures these scenes in his own collection of photographs, allowing the reader a unique opportunity to observe how the landscape has transformed.

The book presents over 60 then and now comparisons along with a small historical narrative that gives the reader the opportunity to judge for themselves how the landscapes have been shaped by development, land management, coastal erosion, and countryside conservation.

The publication also contains a selection of never-before-seen Ravilious images that were digitised from original negatives as part of the The AONB Bespoke Digitisation Project, including a panoramic view of Ilfracombe (see below), the only panoramic sequence that Ravilious ever created for the Beaford Archive.

The book can be purchased online here or in person from the following local retailers: RRP £9.95
