Claire Barker, author of award-winning children’s books.

‘I've chosen this one because it celebrates childhood freedom, something that rural Devon children still have quite a lot of even now, still more than children in cities.

She has everything she needs in that village shop - her doll, a fine selection of sweets and a bit of peace as the grown ups are busy elsewhere.’

Long may it continue. ‘
