One North Devon - Case Studies

Hefted

Hefted is a new play by David Lane, developed in partnership with Beaford. A story in nine scenes, hurtling through 600 years of life in the dynamic landscape of North Devon and beyond into the near future, it was inspired by Beaford’s oral history collection and work with local schools and communities.

A Song For Devon

Produced by Sound UK as part of A Song For Us in partnership with Beaford, Exeter Phoenix, and Villages In Action multi award-winning folk singer Seth Lakeman celebrates the community spirit of Devon and the beauty of the county. Video features images from the Beaford Archive Here and Now project.

Saving Devon’s Treescapes

Storyteller Lisa Schneidau led a series of outdoor storytelling walks as a response to Ash Dieback. Small, socially distanced audiences explored woodlands across North Devon whilst hearing ancient stories peppered with natural history and sharp observation.

Community Trails

We set out on an excursion with primary school children in Appledore, Chulmleigh, Hatherleigh, High Bickington, South Molton and Woolacombe alongside Devon Wildlife Trust to explore the natural landscape depicted in the pictures from the Beaford Archive. Through workshops with professional artists, the children created their own trails marking out areas of specific interest and significance to them.
