11-4pm: Participate in this free workshop to gain invaluable knowledge about the cataloguing and preservation process from the Beaford Archivist Emma Down. If you collect historical material or memorabilia, it is always a good idea to catalogue and preserve it, so all the background information you have about it is kept. This all-day session will help you learn about cataloguing your collection, how to preserve documents, including digitisation, and give you an understanding of the undertaking of the 3 year Beaford Archive project that Emma has been working on. She will speak from her experiences and expertise to guide you through the skills and techniques necessary to catalogue up to 80,000 images to make them searchable and accessible online through digitisation. If you would like to take a small collection of your ‘archives’ with you to this session, or a laptop, you will be able to create the beginning of your own catalogue. Alternatively, Emma will provide documents on the day if any participants wish to practise cataloguing. However, this is not a workshop for us to take ownership of your collection, simply to help you create and develop your own. This workshop is suitable for 16+ and will take place in The Kingsley Room.
