Participate in this free workshop with David Lane (playwright) and Adrienne Quartly (sound designer) to explore the use of language and sound to tell stories, made possible thanks to support from Arts Council England. You will be able to take part with individual and group creative writing tasks and will be encouraged to explore environment and place as much as words and characters, and consider sound as a medium for storytelling. By the end of the workshop you will each write a short (1-minute) piece of audio/sound storytelling inspired by a photograph from the exhibition. It is recommended that you listen to the audio play before the workshop by downloading the audio from the Beaford website that week. This workshop is suitable for 16+ and particularly:

  • Those interested in creative writing, playwriting, theatre, story writing and audio drama

  • Those interested in enlivening history through fictional stories

  • Those interested in local history stories, myths and folklore

  • Those interested in the Beaford Archive of Ravilious/Deakins photographs and how it can be brought to life

  • Students (young and old) of all the above

  • The oral history volunteer team at Beaford

  • Participants in the research stage or community production of Hefted in Swimbridge

  • Local theatre company participants (Up Close Theatre, Bideford) and college students
